Abstract
On 24th February 2016 Aston Martin announced significant new investments towards its long-term future in the United Kingdom. The company confirmed that St Athan in Glamorgan has been chosen as the location for its second manufacturing facility.
Occupying some 90 acres, the new Aston Martin facility at St Athan will re-purpose some of the facilities currently in use at the site by the Ministry of Defence. Centred on the transformation of the three existing ‘super-hangers’ at MOD St Athan, construction work is planned to commence at the end of 2016.
This new facility will support current and future models and will be used to paint, via Robot application, main line and special colours.
The paint facility is to paint both the main vehicle body plus its compatible plastic parts and will be designed to be energy efficient and keep the use of natural resources to a minimum.
The vision for this new paint shop is to install the latest and best in class equipment and for it to be a showcase facility suitable for customers to view specified areas of the process.
