Description of the goods or services required

Aberystwyth Arts Centre is one of the largest arts centres in Wales, located on Aberystwyth University's Penglais campus. Theatr y Werin is a 312-seat theatre built in 1972. The theatre's programme mixes professional and community productions, and in-house professional productions are also taken on tour. The programme includes a range of theatre, dance, opera, comedy, musicals and family events, with a family show at Christmas, and a traditional pantomime.

Although some alterations to the backstage layout and other maintenance works have taken place the theatre is largely in its original state and is in need of some upgrade works.

This specification is for the supply and installation of specialist theatre seating.

Total quantity or scope of tender

The seating shall consist of a total of 312 seats of which 296 shall be permanently fixed and 16 removable.

This specification is for the supply and installation of theatre seating. The works include removal and disposal of the existing seating. Some of the seats are removable to allow for a mixing position in the centre rear of the auditorium.

The Contractor shall be responsible for checking all layouts, site dimensions and dimensions of all seating to be manufactured.

The Contractor shall produce a full set of drawings for approval prior to manufacture. These shall include GA and setting out drawings for the complete auditorium and detailed drawings and 3D visualisations of the seats. All drawings to be provided in PDF and DWG format. Although site drawings are available, the Contractor shall allow for carrying out a site survey to confirm all dimensions.

The Contractor shall include all items necessary to provide complete working systems, irrespective of whether they are detailed in this specification, extras shall not be considered at a later date after the successful tenderer has been appointed due to a lack of information.
